WhatsApp is developing an AI-powered Quick Recap feature to summarize unread messages across multiple chats. Powered by Meta AI and secured through private processing, it will allow users to quickly understand conversations without reading entire threads. Initially spotted in the Android beta version, this feature is expected to roll out gradually but will exclude highly private chats.

AI to the Rescue for Long Chat Threads

Tired of scrolling endlessly through unread messages? WhatsApp is working on a new AI feature called Quick Recap, aimed at saving users time while keeping chats private. This feature, still in development, will summarize messages across up to five conversations, giving users a quick snapshot of what they missed.

What Is Quick Recap and How Is It Different?

Unlike the current Message Summaries tool, which only works on one chat at a time, Quick Recap can generate detailed summaries for multiple chats—up to five—simultaneously. The feature will appear in the chat menu, where users can select conversations, tap the three-dot menu, and choose “Quick Recap.”

This function is particularly useful for group chats or long individual conversations where reading every message is time-consuming.

Meta AI Plus Privacy = Smart and Secure

Quick Recap will use Meta AI combined with Meta Private Processing—a technology that ensures user messages remain encrypted and inaccessible to both WhatsApp and Meta. All data will be processed within a secure enclave, ensuring that even the AI summaries are created without compromising user privacy.

Chats marked under Advanced Chat Privacy settings will be excluded from this feature, showing Meta’s continued commitment to privacy controls.

Availability and Rollout

The feature was spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.21.12 by WABetaInfo, but it is not yet live even for beta users. It will likely roll out gradually through future updates. However, there is currently no confirmation regarding a rollout timeline for iOS users.

Final Word

With Quick Recap, WhatsApp is blending AI convenience with privacy protection. As more conversations shift to mobile, features like this could redefine how users manage their daily communication—quickly, securely, and efficiently.
