He said that the US Embassy in New Delhi denied him and his elderly parents visas without giving them a reasonable opportunity to clarify their connections or intended itinerary.

US Tourist Visa Denied Because Parents Can't Speak English, Rs 20 Laklh In Savings Ignored

He posted: “B2 Visa Delhi: Rejected, 214b”

Delhi Man With ₹20 Lakh In Savings Denied US Visa

He claims that even though they provided evidence of their financial soundness, no enquiries concerning their employment, financial standing, or prior travel experiences were made.

The purpose of the US B2 visa is travel, family visits, medical care, or social gatherings.

A refusal under INA Section 214(b) indicates that the applicant failed to overcome the inference of wanting to immigrate or failed to persuade the officer of their eligibility.

Applicants may reapply if their circumstances or supporting documentation change; such a rejection is not final.

Although reapplication is permitted, acceptance is contingent upon the provision of more convincing evidence of ties to the home nation.

In addition to earning ₹15 lakh a year as the operations head of an IT company, the applicant stated having over ₹20 lakh in personal savings and investments.

His parents, who are both in their sixties, make ₹8 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh annually, respectively, as client managers at a publishing company.

In addition to owning a home, the family has funds totalling more over ₹50 lakh.

They had devised an itinerary and made hotel reservations for their two-week Christmas holiday, which would take them to New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

What Happened During Visa Interview

The candidate explained during the interview that his parents did not speak English well, therefore a Hindi translator was called.

Midway, the officer remarked, “You said your parents don’t know English, and your mother is speaking fine.”

Shortly after, the interview was terminated, and Section 214(b) refusal slips were sent to the family.

One Reddit user made the suggestion that consular officials may not find applicants’ savings in developing nations to be substantial, pointing out that ₹20 lakh “is not impressive.”

The applicant objected, stating that his family had ₹70–80 lakh in total and that others he knew with less savings—roughly ₹10 lakh—had been granted.

Another user said that looking for trends is “a completely futile exercise” and that visa rejections frequently feel random.

They maintained that fairness is not given priority in the system and that applicants shouldn’t feel pressured to live or behave a certain manner in order to satisfy consular employees.

In addition to admitting the inconvenience and monetary loss, this commentator warned against obsessing over the refusal and offered substitute vacation options, such Europe, where the applicant had prior Schengen experience, or other Asian nations.
