With the launch of the full-featured Aadhaar app, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it possible for users to update both their mobile number and address digitally — without visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Below are step-by-step instructions to complete these updates securely and conveniently.

1. Download and Sign In to the Aadhaar App

  1. Download the new Aadhaar app from the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
  2. Open the app and sign in using your Aadhaar number.
  3. You’ll be asked to verify your biometrics (e.g., face authentication) to securely access your Aadhaar profile.
This verification ensures only the rightful Aadhaar holder can make changes.

2. Update Your Mobile Number

  1. Once logged in, tap “Services” at the bottom of the home screen.
  2. Select the “Mobile Number Update” option.
  3. Read the overview of the process and tap Continue.
  4. Enter your new mobile number in the space provided.
  5. You will receive an OTP (one-time password) on the new number — enter it to verify.
  6. Next, complete face authentication as required.
  7. Pay the processing fee (about ₹75) within the app.
  8. After submission, your new mobile number will be updated in the Aadhaar database, typically within up to 15 days.

3. Update Your Address

The Aadhaar app allows address changes in two ways: using an address proof document or via a family member’s Aadhaar.

a. With a Valid Address Proof

  1. Go to the “Services” section.
  2. Tap “Address Update.”
  3. Choose “Update with Address Proof.”
  4. Upload a valid document in your name — such as a Voter ID, passport, electricity bill, bank statement, or mobile bill.
  5. Review the details and confirm the upload.
  6. Complete face authentication and pay the ₹75 processing fee.
  7. Submission will be processed within about 15 days.

b. Via a Family Member’s Aadhaar

  1. After selecting “Address Update,” choose “Use Family Aadhaar.”
  2. Enter the family member’s Aadhaar number whose address is to be copied.
  3. Verify the details and authenticate with face authentication.
  4. Pay the fee and submit the request.
  5. Wait for confirmation and processing (up to about 15 days).

4. After Submission — What to Expect

  • You’ll receive a confirmation message on your registered (updated) mobile number.
  • A Service Request Number (SRN) may be provided for tracking the status of your update.
  • Once processed, the updated details reflect in the Aadhaar database — usable for official verification and services across government and private agencies.

Tip: Always ensure that the documents you upload are clear and valid to avoid delays in processing.
