In a bid to address the burgeoning transportation needs of the national capital, the Delhi Transport Department has granted licenses to ride-hailing giants Uber and Aaveg to introduce a premium bus service in Delhi. This significant development aims to alleviate congestion and pollution concerns while offering commuters a comfortable and efficient mode of travel.

Uber Premium Bus Service Gets Govt Approval: Check Fares, Routes, Booking & More

Sustainable Travel Option: The introduction of a premium bus service comes at a crucial time as Delhi grapples with escalating congestion and air pollution. The scheme allows private operators to run air-conditioned luxury buses equipped with amenities like Wi-Fi, GPS, CCTV, panic buttons, and 2X2 reclining seats. This initiative not only enhances the quality of commuting experience but also contributes to the city’s sustainability goals.

Enhanced Convenience for Passengers: Passengers will enjoy the convenience of assigned seats and the ability to manage trips through the app, including options to cancel or reschedule bookings. Uber’s website allows users to book seats up to seven days in advance, with drivers waiting for up to two minutes at pickup points, ensuring a seamless travel experience.

Safety Measures and Regulations: Safety remains a top priority, with stringent measures in place to safeguard passengers, especially women. The scheme mandates operators to maintain a fleet of at least 25 premium buses and deploy them within 90 days of license issuance. Additionally, the integration of rapid response mechanisms and API-based systems with law enforcement agencies enhances passenger security.

Fleet and Expansion Plans: The premium buses, operated by local fleet partners, offer seating capacities ranging from 19 to 50 people, facilitating connectivity between residential areas and bustling business districts across Delhi. Uber’s successful operation of a shuttle service in Kolkata since 2023, under an MoU with the West Bengal government, underscores its expertise in providing efficient transportation solutions. A pilot program for Uber Shuttle is also underway in the national capital, signaling the company’s commitment to expanding its premium bus services.
