A New Era for Thane
Thane has taken a major step towards better urban mobility by joining Mumbai’s metro network through the launch of trial runs on Metro Line 9, connecting Dahisar (East) and Kashigaon. This marks the first-ever metro corridor serving Thane, promising improved connectivity and eco-friendly commuting options for thousands of daily passengers.

India’s First Double-Decker Viaduct
The 4.4-kilometre Phase 1 stretch includes four key stations—Dahisar (East), Pandurangwadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon. What sets this segment apart is its innovative double-decker viaduct, which supports both metro lines and road traffic. This design optimises limited urban space and reduces construction disruption, offering a scalable model for future infrastructure.
Improved Regional Connectivity
Metro Line 9 is expected to transform daily commutes by linking Mira-Bhayandar with major Mumbai destinations. Once fully operational, commuters will have easier access to the airport (via Lines 7 & 7A), Andheri (via Line 2B), Ghatkopar (via Lines 7 & 1), and Link Road (via Line 2A). Planned extensions aim to connect Thane (via Line 10) and Vasai-Virar (via Line 13), further integrating the region.
Sustainable and Smart Mobility
The project emphasises green commuting, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and vehicle emissions—especially at bottlenecks like Dahisar Toll Naka. The metro uses energy-efficient systems like regenerative braking to recover energy, supporting Mumbai’s zero-carbon goals and promoting eco-friendly urban living.
Towards Inclusive Urban Growth
Bringing metro access to Thane highlights Mumbai’s broader aim of balanced development. Line 9 will increase access to education, jobs, and services in previously underserved areas, creating a more inclusive metropolitan region. The trial run is not just a technical milestone, but a sign of Mumbai’s evolving, sustainable future.
