Thailand will launch an Electronic Travel Authorisation system for Indian travelers starting January 1, 2025. Thailand Starts E-Visa For Indian Tourists Starting January, 2025; Visa-Free Entry Still Exists

Visa-Free Entry Policy Still in Effect
Indian passport holders will continue to benefit from the 60-day visa exemption for tourism and short business trips. The visa-free policy remains effective until further announcements, allowing an additional 30-day stay extension through local immigration offices.

Simplified Travel with e-Visa Implementation
The new e-Visa replaces earlier cumbersome processes, such as the e-Visa on arrival, which often involved high service charges and multiple visa options. Mohak Nahta, CEO of Atlys, praised the initiative, noting that it simplifies travel by offering a single digital solution. Processing will take approximately 14 working days from fee receipt.

Transition Timeline for Visa Submissions
Ordinary passport applications via designated companies will be accepted until December 16, 2024. Diplomatic and official passport submissions at Thai embassies or consulates will continue until December 24, 2024.

Thailand’s Appeal to Indian Tourists
Thailand remains a favorite destination for Indian travelers due to its stunning beaches, rich cultural heritage, and affordable accommodations. By October 2024, Thailand welcomed 1.64 million Indian tourists, making India its third-largest tourist source. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expects over 2 million Indian visitors by year-end, attributing the surge to the visa-free policy.

Economic Impact and Future Growth
Indian tourists significantly contribute to Thailand’s economy, with anticipated revenue of nearly 90 billion baht in 2024. In 2022, India was the second-largest source of tourists, highlighting Thailand’s growing popularity.

Conclusion
With its streamlined e-Visa system and visa-free policy, Thailand is set to further solidify its position as a top travel destination for Indians. The initiative promises to boost convenience for travelers while fostering stronger tourism ties between the two nations.
