Tesla has officially begun deliveries of the Model Y L in India, bringing its six-seater electric SUV to customers across the country. The long-wheelbase version of the popular Model Y marks Tesla’s latest effort to strengthen its position in India’s premium EV market and attract buyers looking for a spacious family-oriented electric vehicle. The Model Y L is priced at ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and is now reaching customers after bookings opened earlier this year.

The launch is significant because it represents Tesla’s first three-row electric SUV offering in India, a segment that remains relatively underserved despite growing demand for premium family vehicles.
A Tesla Built for Families
Unlike the standard Model Y, the Model Y L features a longer wheelbase and a three-row cabin configuration with a 2+2+2 seating layout. The additional space is designed to improve comfort for passengers, particularly in the second and third rows.
Tesla has extended the wheelbase to around 3,040 mm, creating more legroom and headroom while maintaining the familiar design language of the Model Y. The third-row seats can also be folded when additional cargo space is needed, making the vehicle more versatile for long-distance travel.
Impressive Range and Performance
One of the biggest highlights of the Model Y L is its claimed WLTP-certified driving range of up to 681 km on a single charge. This makes it one of the longest-range electric SUVs currently available in the Indian market.
The vehicle comes equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in around 5 seconds. Tesla also claims a top speed of 201 kmph, positioning the Model Y L as both a practical family vehicle and a high-performance electric SUV.
Premium Features and Technology
The Model Y L retains Tesla’s minimalist cabin design while adding features aimed at improving passenger comfort. The SUV comes with a large central touchscreen, additional rear passenger display, premium audio system, wireless charging, advanced driver-assistance features, and over-the-air software update support.
Tesla is also expanding its charging infrastructure in India. The company currently operates multiple Supercharger stations and has indicated plans to continue growing its charging network as vehicle deliveries increase.
Why Tesla Is Launching the Model Y L
The Model Y L arrives at a time when Tesla is seeking to boost its presence in India. While the company has established a foothold in the market, sales volumes have remained modest compared to established luxury brands and fast-growing Chinese EV makers globally. The larger six-seater SUV is expected to appeal to Indian buyers who traditionally prefer spacious family vehicles and three-row SUVs.
Industry observers believe the Model Y L could help Tesla reach a broader audience beyond early adopters and technology enthusiasts.
What It Means for India’s EV Market
The start of deliveries marks another milestone in Tesla’s India journey. With its combination of long range, premium features, spacious seating, and Tesla’s brand appeal, the Model Y L enters a growing luxury EV segment that includes offerings from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and other premium manufacturers.
As more customers receive deliveries in the coming weeks, the Model Y L will provide an important test of whether Tesla can translate global popularity into stronger sales momentum in one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive markets.
