Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services firm, has relaunched its internal employee referral initiative called Bring Your Buddy (BYB) with significantly enhanced bonus payouts. The move is designed to speed up hiring for experienced professionals as the demand for digital and specialised tech skills intensifies across the industry.

The refreshed scheme offers referral bonuses up to ₹40,000 for employees who refer qualified candidates, especially for mid-level positions with four to 15 years of experience. This change aligns with TCS’s broader talent strategy as it seeks to attract and retain highly skilled professionals in a highly competitive market.
How the Referral Incentives Work
Under the new structure, referral bonus amounts are linked directly to the speed of onboarding:
- ₹40,000 bonus if the referred candidate joins within 30 days of offer acceptance
- ₹30,000 if joining within 31–45 days
- ₹20,000 for joining within 46–60 days
- ₹15,000 if onboarding occurs within 61–90 days
This tiered payout model encourages employees to refer candidates who can join quickly, helping TCS reduce the risk of offer drop-offs and ensure faster deployment of talent on projects.
Focus on Mid-Level Technology Talent
TCS has specifically targeted professionals in mid-level grades C1 through C5, reflecting a concentrated effort to bolster its middle management and technical leadership layers. The programme places emphasis on skills in areas such as Salesforce, Oracle, and ServiceNow, which are crucial for digital transformation projects.
By incentivising referrals for these roles, TCS aims to tap into trusted professional networks of its own workforce, leveraging employee advocacy to attract candidates who are both qualified and culturally aligned with the organisation.
Broader Hiring Context at TCS
The enhanced referral bonus comes at a time when the Indian IT sector continues to face intense competition for skilled talent. Accelerated hiring programmes and incentives are increasingly being used by large firms to maintain growth momentum and secure specialist capabilities ahead of rivals.
TCS, which added over 85,000 associates in calendar year 2025, is now focusing on reducing recruitment cycle times and increasing offer acceptance rates. By linking referral incentives to quicker joining windows, the company hopes to improve hiring efficiency without compromising on quality.
