As the tectonic plates of technology shift beneath the global IT industry, Tata Consultancy Services is recalibrating its compass for an AI-first age.
TCS Launches Strategic Reset to Become the World’s Largest AI-Led Technology Services Company
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched a comprehensive internal and market-facing reset to ready itself for an AI–driven future, amid what is shaping up to be the most far-reaching technology transformation the IT services sector has ever witnessed. The renewed strategy signals a clear break from experimental AI pilots and proof-of-concept projects, moving instead toward scaled deployments that are tightly aligned with tangible returns on investment.

Aarthi Subramanian, Executive Director, President and Chief Operating Officer said that “The current wave represents a deeper structural change than any previous technology cycle, and every conversation today is an AI conversation”.
This transformation is being steered by a closely aligned leadership team, with CEO K Krithivasan articulating an ambition to position TCS as the world’s largest AI-led technology services company. Tata Sons reappointed Subramanian as COO in April 2025 as India’s largest software services firm accelerates its strategic pivot toward AI.
TCS’s AI Reset – New Leadership Roles, New Delivery Playbook
While TCS has recorded modest growth over the past two fiscal years due to geopolitical headwinds and AI-led disruption, it crossed the $30 billion revenue milestone in FY25. Over the last six months, the company has taken several bold decisions, including reducing its workforce by about 2%, or roughly 12,000 employees, entering the data centre business, and completing its first acquisition in nearly a decade.
Subramanian said Krithivasan is shaping both customer and employee value propositions while redefining the company’s operating model for an AI-native world. Alongside chief strategy officer Mangesh Sathe, TCS has appointed Amit Kapoor as chief AI and services transformation officer, reporting to Subramanian, to sharpen its focus on large-scale AI delivery.
She said that “We are deliberately creating significant leadership bandwidth because this is an era of unprecedented change. That depth at the senior management level is critical to driving transformation at scale, with Krithi leading the charge”.
AI is also forcing a rethink of the traditional IT services model. TCS has introduced a five-level autonomy framework across service lines to help clients transition from automation to autonomy, even as it restructures parts of its workforce to align with future requirements.
From infrastructure to intelligence, TCS is betting that the future belongs to those who reinvent themselves before the storm fully arrives.
Summary
TCS is undertaking a sweeping transformation to position itself as an AI-native technology services leader. Moving beyond pilots to scaled, ROI-driven AI deployments, the company is reshaping its leadership structure, operating model and workforce. With new frameworks, cultural initiatives and an end-to-end AI strategy, TCS aims to lead the next phase of IT services.
