Following the recent incident of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) terminating six employees involved in a recruitment bribery case, Tata Steel has also taken action by dismissing a total of 35 individuals for violating the code of conduct.
Chairman N Chandrasekaran stated that the company has additionally addressed allegations of sexual misconduct by taking action against three individuals.
Tata Steel Fires 35 People For Violating Code of Conduct
TCS terminated six employees after determining their culpability in accepting favors from specific staffing firms during the hiring of contract workers. The leading IT services provider is currently investigating the involvement of three more employees in this matter.
According to Chandrasekaran, the company received two separate whistleblower complaints in late February and March. One complaint related to the appointment of business associates and contract workers in the United States, while the other concerned similar issues in India. Subsequently, the company conducted thorough investigations into the allegations.
While Chandrasekaran did not specify the nature of the favors received by the employees, he
acknowledged that their conduct exhibited favoritism towards certain firms.
As per him, “”As a company, we are a global benchmark, so we will continue to push the culture where we uphold the highest values and have a zero-tolerance policy.”
He emphasized that Tata Steel will thoroughly examine the supplier management process involving business associates and will implement stringent measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
TCS Accused of Taking Bribes
A recent report revealed that TCS has appointed a new head to oversee the recruitment of temporary workers in the midst of an internal investigation into the bribes-for-jobs scandal, which resulted in the termination of some executives and the blacklisting of certain staffing firms.
TCS denied allegations of seeking bribes for recruitment purposes but acknowledged unethical behavior within the resource allocation group responsible for talent deployment and addressing skill shortages through business associates.
Chandrasekaran mentioned that TCS has invested ₹2,500 crore in intellectual property generation in FY23 and has a reserve of ₹50,000 crore available for future growth requirements.
He expressed the company’s commitment to reducing attrition rates this year and noted that attrition among women in IT services is either lower or on par with the company’s average attrition rate.
