The popular Nexon EV has become the first electric car in India to sell 50,000 units.
This reflects the country’s slowly growing acceptance of electric cars alongside being a significant milestone for the automaker.
Public acceptance
Launched in January 2020, the Nexon EV has been well received by the Indian public.
It quickly became the most popular model from Tata’s EV portfolio, accounting for up to 15% of total Nexon sales.
Adopting EVs
The Indian market is still in the early stages of embracing electric vehicles, so this sales milestone is a positive sign of the direction it is headed.
Tata’s Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max variants constitute up to 15% of the overall sales of the Nexon.
This is indicative of a growing interest in electric models.
Outperforming rivals
The Nexon EV outperformed all the other EV makers in the market by being among the first to be launched.
Maruti Suzuki still does not have an electric car.
Mahindra took two more years to launch its rival, the XUV400 electric crossover.
However, since this is new to the market, it is too early to tell if it will have the same sales performance or not.
More EVs coming
More electric vehicles will be launched by the company.
It already showcased a Tata Harrier EV.
