Tata Motors has introduced Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) variants for its Tiago and Tigor models equipped with factory-fitted CNG kits, constituting India’s first original AMT technology integration in OEM CNG vehicles. Priced upwards of ₹7.9 lakhs, the new trims expand options for customers preferring convenience of automatic gearshifts alongside CNG’s operational economics.

The company recorded a 68% CNG sales volume growth in 2023 already, underscoring surging popularity amid rising petrol costs. Further enhancing drive comfort aims capturing additional market share given CNG’s expanding reach.

Added Convenience Retains Fuel Efficiency

Tata offers CNG options across 4 models including the popular Punch mini-SUV, but automated transmission was lacking. Now with AMT introduction in Tiago and Tigor range, the company integrates creature comforts without compromising 28 km/kg claimed mileage.

The technology functions akin to manual transmission but uses sensors and actuators for clutch/gear actuation, removing need for pedal work. This offers superior drive feel than bare-basic options earlier at marginal premiums.
