In a surprising move, Zomato has announced that its parent company, Zomato Limited, will now be known as Eternal Limited. The rebrand, revealed on Thursday, aims to reflect the company’s broader vision beyond food delivery. Eternal Limited will house Zomato’s four key businesses:

CEO Deepinder Goyal explained that the name change represents more than a rebrand. “This is not just a name change; it is a mission statement,” he stated in a letter to shareholders.

Social Media Reactions to the Name Change

The announcement quickly went viral, sparking debates among users. Some praised the new identity, calling it “bold” and “ambitious,” while others questioned the need for a change. One user commented, “Eternal is such a beautiful name and signifies your ethos.” Another wrote, “Congrats on the new brand! A fresh identity brings new opportunities.”

However, criticism was also widespread. Some users compared it to previous corporate rebrands like Facebook’s transition to Meta and Twitter’s switch to X. One user sarcastically wrote, “Perfect example of fixing something that was perfectly fine and probably breaking it.” Another added, “Please founders, nobody cares that much about the name.”

Zomato App Will Retain Its Name

Amid concerns that the Zomato brand itself might change, Goyal clarified that the food delivery app will continue to operate under the same name. “We would like to rename Zomato Ltd., the company (not the brand/app), to Eternal Ltd.,” he confirmed.

A Bold Move with an Uncertain Future

While the new name reflects an ambitious vision, it remains to be seen how it will impact the company’s future. Goyal acknowledged the weight of the name, stating, “Eternal is a powerful name, and it scares me to my core. True permanence is built not on bold claims but on continuous evolution.”

For now, Zomato remains a key player in food delivery, but its future as Eternal Limited could bring new opportunities—or new challenges.
