To ensure safe travel during the festive rush, the Indian Railways has temporarily suspended the sale of platform tickets at 15 major railway stations across Delhi, Mumbai, and Gujarat until October 28, 2025. The decision aims to manage overcrowding, ensure smoother passenger movement, and prevent congestion during Diwali and Chhath Puja.
Platform Ticket Suspension Details
The restriction will remain in place till the end of October and is expected to ease passenger flow at high-footfall stations. However, exceptions will be made for certain categories — senior citizens, children, women, and ailing passengers who require assistance can still obtain platform tickets under Railway Board guidelines.
This measure is part of the Railways’ crowd management strategy, ensuring that passengers can board and deboard trains safely at some of India’s busiest terminals during the holiday period.

Delhi Region:
- New Delhi
- Delhi Junction
- Hazrat Nizamuddin
- Anand Vihar Terminal
- Ghaziabad
Mumbai Region:
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)
- Dadar
- Bandra Terminus
Gujarat Region:
- Surat
- Udhna
- Vapi
Additional suburban and junction stations across these zones have also been placed under crowd control watch by local railway authorities.
Festive Measures Across Zones
The Railways has also increased special trains, added additional coaches, and strengthened station security to accommodate the heavy passenger inflow. Similar crowd control measures are likely to continue during the upcoming Christmas–New Year season if needed.
