A piece of good news for the travellers visiting  Mumbai or Pune as now the travel between Pune-Mumbai is about to get even faster and smoother with this latest news.

Rs 2900 Crore Expressway Planned To Cut Travel Time Between Mumbai Pune

A Boost On Highway Connectivity

It appears that the Central Government has recently approved the construction of a six-lane controlled-access greenfield expressway which will further connect the JNPA Port (Pagote) to Chowk, a key junction on the old Mumbai–Pune highway.

Moving ahead, they have estimated this project to cost Rs 2,900 crore as this is going to be  the part of a larger infrastructure plan aimed at enhancing port connectivity.

This initiative would also be supporting industrial corridors, and help in easing commuter traffic between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune reportedly.

The expressway will allow commuters to reach the Mumbai–Pune Highway in just 10 minutes, a significant improvement from the current travel time after completion of this project.

A Vital Link & Much More

This is going to be a 29.219-kilometre-long corridor which will further serve as a vital link for cargo movement from JNPA (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority) and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, boosting logistics efficiency and regional development.

The new expressway will feature two major tunnels (1,900 metres and 1,570 metres in length), six major bridges (ranging between 160 metres and 910 metres), five minor bridges, four flyovers, and two road bridges as per the project details.

They are planning to acquire around 175 hectares of land for this project,

If you are wondering about the timelines, this project will have a construction timeline of 30 months.

It will be implemented on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, with an overall cost of Rs 4,500.62 crore for the full stretch of development as per the approval during the meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This new expressway will not only decongest the existing Mumbai–Pune Expressway but will also ease the movement of goods and passengers, especially benefiting residents and businesses in Raigad, Panvel, and Navi Mumbai as informed by the officials.

It seems that there are several industrial and residential projects planned in the area.

So, the construction of this expressway is expected to play a transformative role in the region’s connectivity and economy.
