In a significant infrastructure move, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved projects exceeding ₹12,000 crore to speed up Metro development across the Mumbai region. The decision was made during the MMRDA’s 284th Executive Committee meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik.

Comprehensive Approvals for Metro Lines and Transport Systems
The approved projects cover multiple aspects of metro development, including:
- Rolling stock acquisition
- Signalling and telecom systems
- Traction and E&M power supply
- Civil works and platform screen doors
- Depot equipment and maintenance
- Digital monitoring and multimodal integration
A total of 19 major contracts were cleared to fast-track Metro implementation.
L&T Secures Biggest Contract for Line 4 and 4A
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) emerged as the biggest beneficiary, winning a contract worth ₹4,788 crore for Mumbai Metro Line 4 and 4A. This includes supply of rolling stock, signalling, telecom, screen doors, depot machinery, and five years of maintenance. L&T also bagged a ₹188.59 crore order for track work on the same line.
NCC and IRCON Also Win Key Deals
- NCC Ltd received the second-largest contract—₹2,269.66 crore for Metro Line 6, which includes rolling stock, telecom, and depot systems.
- IRCON International Ltd was awarded a ₹668.15 crore contract for traction and electrical systems for Line 6.
These contracts aim to ensure seamless infrastructure development and integrated growth of Mumbai’s public transport.
Focus on Integrated Transport Vision
MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee stated, “Each project approved today has been meticulously evaluated to ensure it contributes meaningfully to the integrated growth of Mumbai’s transport infrastructure.”
With these new approvals, Mumbai is poised to witness accelerated Metro execution, better interconnectivity, and a smoother commuter experience in the coming years.
