Bengaluru’s traffic police have rolled out a limited-time scheme offering 50% discount on pending traffic fines, and the response from citizens has been remarkable. The initiative, launched on August 23, 2025, has already helped clear lakhs of cases and recover crores in dues.

Rs 11 Crore Collected After Bengaluru Traffic Police Offers 50% Discount In Penalties

Massive Response from Citizens

On the very first day, motorists rushed to settle their dues, clearing 1,48,747 cases and contributing ₹4.18 crore. Within three days, the collection rose to ₹11.63 crore from 4,13,204 pending cases across Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka.

The initiative has been welcomed by vehicle owners, many of whom had accumulated penalties but delayed payments due to the financial burden.

Scope and Eligibility of the Scheme

The 50% waiver applies only to traffic violations committed before February 11, 2023. This means older pending cases can now be cleared at half the cost. However, recent violations are excluded from the scheme to ensure road discipline is maintained going forward.

Payments can be made through:

  • Online portals
  • Police stations
  • Digital payment platforms

This wide accessibility has contributed to the overwhelming response.

Benefits for Citizens and Government

The scheme has turned into a win-win situation. Citizens struggling with heavy dues are relieved by the discounted rates, while the government successfully recovers a significant portion of long-pending fines.

Traffic authorities hope the initiative will also encourage motorists to adopt better road discipline and avoid piling up penalties in the future.

Looking Ahead

The Karnataka government has not announced how long the discount scheme will continue, but its success highlights the potential of such relief measures in reducing backlogs and improving compliance.

For Bengaluru, a city notorious for traffic violations, this initiative marks an important step towards better road governance and responsible driving.
