Reliance Jio Brings High-Speed Connectivity to Siachen Glacier Ahead of Army Day
Indian soldiers stationed at Siachen Glacier can now access high-speed internet services, according to the telecom company. This milestone was achieved just ahead of Army Day, which is observed annually on January 15. A spokesperson for Reliance Jio stated that with the help of Army Signallers, the company has become the first telecom operator to provide seamless connectivity in such a challenging region. The spokesperson also mentioned that Reliance Jio deployed pre-configured plug-and-play equipment at a forward post, utilizing its indigenous full-stack 5G technology.
The achievement was made possible through close coordination with Army Signallers, involving multiple training sessions, system pre-configuration, and extensive testing. The Indian Army played a crucial role in managing logistics, including airlifting Reliance Jio’s equipment to Siachen Glacier. “This collaboration successfully enabled connectivity at 16,000 feet in the Karakoram Range, an area known for its extreme conditions, with temperatures dropping to -50 degrees Celsius,” the spokesperson noted.
