Reliance Jio has become the first telecom provider in India to launch VoNR (Voice Over New Radio) technology, offering a new service to its millions of users. Designed specifically for Jio’s 5G network, VoNR provides a superior calling experience compared to traditional VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) technology used by most telecom companies. By leveraging 5G, VoNR ensures HD voice quality, reduced background noise, and smoother communication. The technology’s low latency and increased network efficiency contribute to an overall enhanced voice calling experience for users.

Reliance Jio Becomes 1st In India To Launch Voice Over New Radio Tech For Superior Calling Experience

Jio’s VoNR Innovation and TRAI’s Efforts to Boost Connectivity in India

By implementing VoNR technology, Jio has gained a competitive edge over rivals like Airtel and Vodafone Idea, marking a major step forward in the telecom industry. Jio SIM card users will be able to fully benefit from this new calling technology, ensuring an enhanced overall experience.

Alongside Jio’s innovation, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed measures to lower broadband internet costs in rural regions. TRAI recommends that Public Data Offices (PDOs), which buy internet access in bulk and resell it, should charge no more than twice the regular home internet rates. This suggestion is part of an effort to reduce costs and boost the PM-WANI initiative, which aims to expand public Wi-Fi hotspots across India.

PM-WANI Initiative: Revised Goals to Enhance Rural Connectivity by 2030

Launched to improve internet access, particularly in rural India, the PM-WANI initiative initially aimed to establish 10 million hotspots by 2022. However, this target has since been revised, with a new goal of 50 million hotspots by 2030, in a bid to create a more connected India.

Summary:

Reliance Jio has introduced VoNR technology, enhancing calling quality with 5G for a superior experience. This gives Jio an edge over competitors. Meanwhile, TRAI aims to reduce rural broadband costs and boost the PM-WANI initiative, which now targets 50 million public Wi-Fi hotspots across India by 2030.
