Mahabaleshwar, 18th May 2025: A landmark infrastructure project is underway to directly connect Mahabaleshwar and Ratnagiri via a new cable-stayed bridge. This ambitious structure will link Tapola in Satara district with Gadhavali Ahir in Ratnagiri, cutting the current distance by about 50 km and easing travel between Western Maharashtra and the Konkan region.

Scenic Cable-Stayed Bridge to Connect Mahabaleshwar and Ratnagiri, Boost Tourism
The bridge will pass through the remote Koyna valley and offer a picturesque route via Raghuveer Ghat in Khed taluka. Once operational, it will eliminate the need for travellers from Ratnagiri to use the longer Ambenali Ghat route via Poladpur. Instead, they can reach Tapola directly and continue to Satara via the Kas Plateau, greatly reducing travel time.
Modelled after the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai, this will be the first cable-stayed bridge of its kind in Western Maharashtra. Spanning 540 meters in length and 14 meters in width, it will feature a 43-meter-high viewing gallery at its centre. The gallery, overlooking the Koyna backwaters and the Sahyadri hills, is set to become a major tourist attraction.
Dual-Bridge Project to Enhance Connectivity and Boost Regional Development
In addition to this bridge, a secondary bridge is being constructed on the Bamnoli–Aapti stretch, further enhancing regional connectivity. This new addition will reduce the Tapola–Satara distance by another 10 to 15 km, benefiting locals and travellers alike.
Together, the two bridges are expected to significantly improve road connectivity, promote tourism, and boost economic activity. By offering a shorter, scenic, and safer alternative route, this dual-bridge initiative marks a transformative development for the region.
Summary:
A new cable-stayed bridge linking Mahabaleshwar and Ratnagiri will cut travel distance by 50 km, enhancing connectivity and tourism. Passing through Koyna valley, it includes a scenic viewing gallery. A second bridge on the Bamnoli–Aapti stretch further reduces travel, together promising major regional development and economic growth.
