Several states across India have announced a public holiday on January 22nd for the sacred ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of the new Ram Lalla idol at Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir. Banks and schools will also remain closed to enable people’s participation.
Banks, Financial Institutions to be Closed
The finance ministry has declared a half-day closure on January 22nd for public sector banks, insurance companies, financial institutions and regional rural banks. This will allow employees to take part in the Ram Mandir inauguration festivities.
Earlier, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) had announced half-day leave for all central government offices and establishments for the mega event.
School Holiday in Various States
In view of the high-profile temple ceremony led by Prime Minister Modi, several state governments have declared a public holiday on January 22nd, including closing educational institutions.
Uttar Pradesh schools and colleges will be shut, while liquor shops shall remain closed statewide. Madhya Pradesh has announced a school holiday while also declaring it a dry day.
Goa, Chhattisgarh and Haryana have similarly declared public holiday for schools given the Ram Mandir inauguration. States aim to enable people to participate in or celebrate this important Hindu ceremony.
Special Preparations for PM Modi Visit
Elaborate arrangements by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust are underway in Ayodhya including welcome and hospitality for attending VVIPs like PM Modi.
As a special memento ‘Ram Raj’ sacred soil from the temple would be gifted to guests. The soil is considered divinely graced to enhance ambiance when kept in home gardens or pots.

The Pran Pratishtha conducted by head priest Mahant Lakshmikant Dixit on January 22 marks the culmination of decades-long efforts by devotees across India and worldwide.
