With the aim of delivering high-end features and performance to mid-range smartphones, Qualcomm has introduced its latest mobile processor, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3
There are significant enhancements in CPU, GPU capabilities along with power efficiency. Additionally, it also marks the debut of on-device AI functionalities in the Snapdragon 7 series.
Speaking on the CPU front, there is a noteworthy 15% increase in CPU performance, whereas on the GPU performance, there is up to 45% better GPU performance. Cherry on the cake is that all of this comes with a reduction in power consumption by 5%.
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is fabricated by using a cutting-edge 4 nm process technology. It incorporates a prime Cortex-X4 core running at 2.8 GHz, 4 performance cores operating at 2.6 GHz, and three efficiency cores running at 1.9 GHz.
The chipset ensures seamless multitasking and swift data access with support for up to 24 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. It features Qualcomm Hexagon NPU for AI tasks and an Adreno GPU capable of supporting up to 4K resolution displays at 60Hz or QHD+ resolution screens at 120Hz.
One of the remarkable features in this chipset is its support for on-device generative AI experiences, which enables the mid-range smartphones to offer advanced AI functionalities such as virtual assistants, image generation, and multi-language translation and transcription.
Additionally, it provides users with blazing-fast internet speeds by supporting WiFi 7 via the FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system. Notably, it is the first 7-series chip to support the aforementioned.
For enriched visual effects, the chipset also integrates a Game Post Processing Accelerator. It has Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 for doubled frame rates without compromising efficiency, and the Spectra 18-bit Triple Cognitive ISP supporting up to 200MP sensors and advanced features like semantic segmentation and low-light vision.
OnePlus Nord CE 3 Leads the Way
The Senior VP & GM of mobile handsets at Qualcomm Technologies, Chris Patrick emphasized the chipset’s ability to support on-device generative AI features and expressed confidence on its exceptional performance and efficiency.
With OnePlus Nord CE 3 expected to be among the first to launch featuring this new chipset in April, other smartphone makers including the likes of OnePlus, Realme, and Sharp are working on their phones with the same chipset.
