The Maharashtra government has taken concrete steps to establish a new IT park in Purandar taluka, located strategically near the proposed Pune International Airport and logistics hub. Industry minister Uday Samant has directed officials to initiate land acquisition for the project, marking the state’s intent to expand Pune’s IT footprint.

Land Allocation and Location Advantage
The industry department has written to the revenue department, requesting transfer of around 1,500 acres of government land in Dive, Chambali, and Kodit villages. Shiv Sena MLA Vijay Shivthare, who has championed the demand, confirmed that the state has approved the project and cleared the identified land parcels for development.
The location near the upcoming airport and logistics hub is expected to attract IT and allied companies, providing both connectivity and growth opportunities.
Relieving Pressure on Hinjewadi IT Park
Hinjewadi IT Park, Pune’s largest IT hub, has been grappling with infrastructure bottlenecks, traffic congestion, and saturation. Officials believe that the new Purandar IT park will ease pressure on Hinjewadi and prevent companies from relocating outside Maharashtra due to infrastructure delays.
Last month, deputy CM Ajit Pawar also urged speedy infrastructure upgrades in Hinjewadi, highlighting industry concerns over road widening and civic amenities.
Smooth Acquisition Expected
According to officials, since the identified land is government-owned, the acquisition process is expected to proceed without hurdles. The move is part of Maharashtra’s broader strategy to retain IT investments and strengthen Pune’s reputation as one of India’s top technology hubs.
