Punjab National Bank (PNB) is gearing up for a major relaunch of its credit card operations starting November 2025. With a revamped IT infrastructure on the way, the state lender aims to improve visibility in the market. A dedicated general manager now heads the division, signaling a stronger focus on building scale in this segment.

Revamped Digital Infrastructure

MD Ashok Chandra confirmed that PNB is overhauling its digital offerings to enhance customer experience. The PNB One mobile app will receive a facelift by September, incorporating new AI-powered features developed with Infosys. The bank is also preparing a new version of its business mobile app to provide better digital convenience for corporate customers.

Improving Internet and Mobile Banking

The lender plans to significantly enhance its internet banking platform alongside the revamped mobile apps. Chandra said these upgrades are designed to simplify processes and make banking more seamless. PNB believes a stronger digital ecosystem will not only improve customer satisfaction but also help it compete with private sector peers in retail banking and payments.

Focus on NPA Recovery

PNB has identified over 100 non-performing asset (NPA) accounts worth ₹4,000–5,000 crore for sale to Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARCs) during the current fiscal year. The bank expects to recover 40–50% on average, with some accounts potentially yielding full recovery due to strong security backing. This step is part of PNB’s broader strategy to strengthen its balance sheet through better recovery mechanisms.

The Road Ahead

With a dual strategy of reviving credit card operations and cleaning up its balance sheet, PNB is attempting to reposition itself in India’s competitive banking landscape. The upcoming launches in digital banking, powered by AI models, reflect the lender’s commitment to modernization. If executed well, these measures could help PNB enhance its retail presence and improve asset quality simultaneously.

Summary

Punjab National Bank (PNB) plans a major relaunch of its credit card business by November 2025, backed by revamped IT infrastructure. Alongside, its PNB One app and internet banking platform will get AI-powered upgrades. The bank has also identified ₹4,000–5,000 crore in NPAs for sale to ARCs, targeting 40–50% recovery to strengthen its financial position.
