On World Password Day, which falls on the first Thursday of May every year, Google has launched its new feature, Passkeys. The tech giant aims to eliminate the need for passwords as they pose a risk for security breaches. With this new feature, users can authenticate their identity through their Android devices or compatible iPhones.

Passwords No Longer Needed! Google Launches Passkeys Which Eliminates The Need For Passwords

Eliminating the Need for Passwords

Passwords are essential in today’s digital world, but they can also be a source of insecurity, as they are easily forgotten, reused across multiple accounts, and hacked. As cybercriminals continue to become more sophisticated, passwords are no longer enough to secure users’ data.

Passkeys, on the other hand, use a combination of public-key cryptography and FIDO2 protocols. This method allows users to authenticate their identity with just a tap on their Android or iPhone device. Unlike passwords, passkeys cannot be easily stolen or hacked, making them a more secure alternative.

A Safer and More Convenient Option

Google’s Passkeys offer users a safer and more convenient option for authentication. The feature provides two different types of passkeys, the first being a device passkey that is specific to the device being used. The second type of passkey is known as a security key, which is a physical device used for authentication. These security keys can be purchased from different vendors and used to sign in to Google, Dropbox, Facebook, and other websites that support FIDO2 protocols.

With the help of Passkeys, users no longer have to remember multiple passwords or worry about their accounts getting hacked. Instead, they can use their Android or iPhone device to authenticate their identity securely.

Simplifying Authentication for Everyone

In addition to providing a safer and more convenient way for users to authenticate their identity, Passkeys also simplifies the authentication process for developers. By using FIDO2 protocols, developers can easily integrate passkeys into their apps and websites without the need for additional software or hardware.

Passkeys also ensure that users’ data remains secure, as the authentication process takes place locally on the user’s device. This means that there is no need for users to share their credentials with a third-party server, reducing the risk of data breaches.

Why This Is Important?

Passwords have long been a source of insecurity in today’s digital world, and Google’s Passkeys aim to eliminate the need for them. With this new feature, users can authenticate their identity securely and conveniently with just a tap on their Android or iPhone device. Passkeys also offer a safer alternative to passwords, as they cannot be easily stolen or hacked. Additionally, Passkeys simplify the authentication process for developers, making it easier for them to integrate the feature into their apps and websites.

Overall, Google’s Passkeys offer a more secure and convenient way to authenticate users’ identity, making it a significant step forward in the quest for improved cybersecurity.
