This move comes after Zomato’s unprecedented online demand spike on New Year’s Eve 2024, which broke the company’s six-year cumulative record.

In some locations, Zomato charged a platform fee of about Rs 9 on New Year’s Eve during periods of high demand.

As per a spokesperson, “These are business calls which we take based on various factors from time to time.”

Notably, Swiggy, Zomato’s competitor, was the first to implement the platform fee, adding an extra Rs 2 to each order. The platform fee goes toward helping the food delivery app maintain and operate flawless services; it is not the same as the delivery fee.

However, this is not applicable to the Customers who have monthly subscription plans, such as Zomato Gold.

Users of Zomato showed a preference for biryani in 2023, the online food platform disclosed on Monday. 10.09 crore biryani orders were processed on the platform in the course of the year, according to the annual ordering trends report. That’s a significant amount of orders that could fill eight Qutub Minars in Delhi.

This was followed by pizza, which garnered over 7.45 crore orders in 2023, and noodle bowls secured the third position, accumulating nearly 4.55 crore orders on Zomato.
