OnePlus (as well as its parent company Oppo) and InterDigital are once again in hot water with each other and are embroiled in a very protracted patent dispute with Nokia in the past, which at one point saw OnePlus and Oppo devices banned from sale in Germany (and this only ended a few months ago), and now unfortunately history repeats itself.
OnePlus Faces New 5G Patent Dispute
The problem, however, is not with Nokia but also is a patent dispute, over key patents for 5G and other mobile technologies with InterDigital, which sounds pretty much similar to what the Nokia commotion was all about.
In Germany, OnePlus’ online store once again has no smartphones for sale, though its other products seem to be fine – so this is clearly about 5G. It’s unclear when OnePlus will be able to sell its handsets in Germany again.
OnePlus’ Statement Emphasizing Innovation
Speaking on this matter, the company issued the below official statement on the matters:
OnePlus places high value on intellectual property rights and fair access to standard essential patents, which is essential for driving innovation in the industry. We will continue to negotiate with InterDigital and wish to solve this matter in an amicable way. Meanwhile, our commitment in Europe remains unchanged and we will continue to provide excellent products and services to our users.
