Nothing, the smartphone company, has recently begun teasing its upcoming smartphone release.
This comes shortly after the company’s announcement regarding the upcoming release of Android 14 Beta for the Phone (1).
Nothing Teases Nothing Phone (2); Release of Android 14 Beta
Although the exact launch date for Nothing’s Android 14 Beta program is still unknown, the company aims to initiate the program by delivering Android 14 Beta 1.
Interestingly, it has only been a few weeks since Nothing introduced their latest product, the Ear (2), which showcases various improvements and modifications compared to their initial earbud offering.
As anticipated, Nothing’s upcoming smartphone will indeed be named the Phone (2). In contrast to its mid-range predecessor, the company has positioned the Phone (2) as a ‘premium’ device.
At present, Nothing has committed only to an announcement timeframe for the Phone (2) during the summer of 2023, which falls between June 21 and September 23. This suggests that the Phone (2) is expected to launch approximately one year after its predecessor.
Android 14 To Release in August
Given that Android 14 is projected to achieve stable status in August, it appears unlikely that Nothing will have the Android 14 update ready for the release of the Phone (2), particularly considering the time it took for Android 13 to be made available on the Phone (1).
Furthermore, Nothing has dropped hints that the Phone (2) will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 series chipset, deviating from the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 used in its predecessor.
Interestingly, this contradicts earlier information as a Qualcomm executive had confirmed in March that the Phone (2) would feature the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. It seems that Nothing has established a pattern of utilizing previous-generation chipsets for its devices.
Initial benchmark results indicate that the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 offer comparable performance, but the former is expected to provide better power efficiency. While details about other specifications remain unknown at this stage, it is likely that Nothing will gradually reveal more information about the Phone (2) in the upcoming weeks.
