There is a new feature to look forward to for WhatsApp users.
This is a new camera feature that extracts texts from an image.
Patch
The new update v23.5.77 is bringing this feature to iPhones as of now so Android users have to wait.
This should help users extract text from images they receive on WhatsApp.
Utility
This feature could be especially handy for business or work-related conversations where documents and images are frequently shared.
The newest update for iOS version 23.5.77 offers the feature which was previously restricted to beta testers only.
How to access
This feature on iOS is called Live Text and allows users to extract information from pictures and videos found online.
Open an image that contains text and search for the new button that has been added.
At this point, you should be able to see a new option that is only available on the latest version of the app on iOS 16.
Once you click this button, you can copy the text from the image directly.
Caution
The feature doesn’t work with one-time-images that are essentially used to exchange expiring images.
For privacy reasons, this feature is not compatible with the view once images.
Availability
This feature can only be accessed on iOS 16 and isn’t supported by view once images, which provide an additional layer of privacy.
WhatsApp will most likely roll out the update in phases starting from next month.
It is not known when the feature will be accessible on Android smartphones.
