The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has introduced a new hand baggage policy, permitting passengers to carry only one cabin bag inside the aircraft. This rule applies universally to domestic and international flights, aiming to streamline security processes at airports.

Hand Baggage Weight and Size Limits
Under the updated policy, economy and premium economy passengers can carry a hand bag weighing up to 7 kg, while first and business-class travelers are allowed up to 10 kg. Baggage dimensions must not exceed 55 cm (height), 40 cm (length), and 20 cm (width). Airlines are strictly enforcing these limits to ensure compliance.

Exemptions for Pre-May 2, 2024 Bookings
Passengers with tickets booked before May 2, 2024, are eligible for higher weight allowances: 8 kg for economy, 10 kg for premium economy, and 12 kg for first or business class. However, any amendments made after this date will render the ticket subject to the new rules.

Why the Stricter Rules?
The new regulations address increasing passenger traffic and congestion at pre-embarkation security checkpoints. The BCAS and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) are working together to enhance efficiency and security, prompting airlines to adopt the tightened measures.

Preparing for Air Travel Under the New Rules
Travelers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these guidelines to avoid complications. Additional baggage beyond the one allowed hand bag must be checked in, potentially incurring extra charges. Reviewing the updated baggage rules before heading to the airport can save time and prevent inconvenience.

The Bottom Line
The BCAS hand baggage policy underscores the importance of being informed about travel guidelines. With exemptions in place for early bookings and specific weight limits for different classes, passengers can adapt to these changes smoothly by planning ahead.
