The Modi-led government has greenlit the Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway, a new addition to Uttar Pradesh’s rapidly expanding expressway network. Spearheaded by the Road Transport and Highways Ministry under Nitin Gadkari, this 380-km expressway aims to revolutionize travel and facilitate economic growth in nine key districts of the state.
Key Features of the Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway
The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway, designed as a greenfield project, will initially have four lanes, with future expansion potential to six lanes. This expressway promises to cut travel time drastically, reducing the current 8-hour journey between Ghaziabad and Kanpur to just 5.5 hours. As part of the design, there is potential for a future extension to Jewar Airport in Noida, strengthening Kanpur’s connectivity.
Enhanced Access Across Nine Districts
The expressway will traverse nine major districts: Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Unnao, and Kanpur. By connecting these regions, the project is set to enhance local accessibility and establish industrial centers along the route. Special zones are being identified to encourage industrial development, which could bring new employment opportunities and stimulate regional economic growth.
Expected Completion and Economic Impact
Slated for completion by 2026, the expressway will be pivotal in connecting Delhi-NCR to Kanpur and surrounding areas, significantly enhancing Uttar Pradesh’s traffic flow and infrastructure landscape. The project aligns with the government’s vision to improve the ease of travel and promote industrialization, contributing to overall regional development.
Once operational, the Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway will not only cut down travel time but also offer an economic boost to Uttar Pradesh, making it a critical milestone in India’s infrastructure journey.
