Mumbai Bans Large Vehicles From Feb 1: Check What's Allowed, What's Not!

The Mumbai Traffic Police have rolled out a fresh advisory effective 1 February targeting congestion and bottlenecks in busy parts of the city. The focus is on managing the flow of large vehicles — such as heavy goods carriers, trucks, and commercial transport — which are known to slow traffic in narrow areas and contribute to jams during peak times.

These restrictions are part of broader efforts to enhance road safety, reduce delays for daily commuters, and bring predictability to traffic movement in and around busy commercial and residential hubs.

Large Vehicle Bans During Peak Hours

Under the new advisory, large vehicles may be restricted from entering certain arterial roads during peak traffic hours, especially in central and high-density zones. While specific road names may vary or get updated by police notifications, the core goal is to keep busy corridors free from slow-moving heavy traffic that causes headaches for local motorists and public transport.

Commuters driving large vehicles should check official Mumbai Traffic Police channels for designated times and alternate routes to comply with the advisory.

Route Diversions Announced

Traffic authorities are also implementing diversions on key stretches where congestion has historically peaked. These diversions help reroute traffic — especially large vehicles and commercial trucks — onto less busy roads or bypasses during defined peak hours.

Diversion signage and traffic personnel will guide motorists, with the aim of minimising confusion and ensuring smoother travel — especially for those unfamiliar with the city’s changing traffic patterns.

Parking Rules & No-Parking Zones

The advisory includes tightened parking regulations, especially on main roads and busy commercial zones where parked vehicles can significantly hamper traffic flow. Typically, such rules involve designated no-parking zones during high-traffic windows, enforcement of towing for violations, and penalties for illegal parking.

Motorists are advised to use authorised parking facilities and be mindful of signage indicating no-parking hours to avoid fines and disruptions.

Commuter Tips

To best navigate the new advisory:

  • Plan routes in advance and avoid major thoroughfares during peak times if possible.
  • Follow official signage and directions from traffic police at diversion points.
  • Use public transport or authorised parking lots to reduce road pressure.

With cooperation, the advisory aims to make Mumbai’s streets more predictable and reduce daily commuter stress.
