Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani became visibly emotional during the stock market listing ceremony of Jio Platforms on Wednesday, 28 October, as his children Anant Ambani and Isha Ambani paid tribute to their father and grandfather, Dhirubhai Ambani.

The ceremony at the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai marked a major milestone for Jio, which has grown into one of India’s largest digital and telecommunications businesses. The speeches reflected on the company’s journey, its role in connecting millions of Indians and the responsibility of the next generation to carry the business forward.
Anant Ambani Calls Jio a Gift to India
Addressing the gathering, Reliance Industries Executive Director Anant Ambani expressed gratitude to the millions of customers and supporters who helped build Jio.
He described the stock exchange’s opening bell as resembling a temple bell, explaining that business was like worship and that its rewards should be shared.
Anant credited his grandfather, Dhirubhai Ambani, with demonstrating that an ordinary Indian could pursue extraordinary ambitions. He also acknowledged Mukesh Ambani’s vision of bringing digital connectivity to the country.
He described himself and his siblings, Akash and Isha, as “three bodies but one soul”, united by a commitment to fulfil the aspirations of Indians.
Isha Ambani Recalls Her Father’s Early Days
Isha Ambani also delivered an emotional tribute to her father, recalling his involvement in Reliance’s first public offering in 1977, when he was just 20 years old.
She explained how Dhirubhai Ambani had taken Reliance to ordinary investors, allowing members of the public to participate in the company’s growth.
Nearly five decades later, she said, the family’s relationship with investors had come full circle through Jio’s listing.
Isha praised her father’s ability to recognise opportunities before others and his determination to build businesses that initially appeared impossible. As she spoke about his contribution to Reliance and India’s digital transformation, Mukesh Ambani was seen wiping tears from his eyes.
She also acknowledged her brother Akash Ambani’s contribution to Jio, saying that he had devoted years to building the business.
Jio Makes a Strong Stock Market Debut
The emotional family moment coincided with a significant financial milestone. Jio Platforms’ shares made a strong debut on Indian stock exchanges, opening approximately 21.4% above the IPO price.
The listing valued the company at around ₹12.6 lakh crore, making it one of India’s most valuable listed businesses.
The public offering raised approximately ₹30,213 crore, attracting substantial investor interest. The listing also gives public-market investors an opportunity to participate directly in Jio Platforms’ growth.
A New Chapter for the Reliance Empire
The ceremony highlighted the transition towards the next generation of the Ambani family. Akash, Isha and Anant have taken on increasingly prominent roles across the group’s businesses.
For Mukesh Ambani, the listing represented not only a corporate achievement but also a moment to reflect on the legacy established by his father and the business he has built over several decades.
As Jio enters its next phase as a listed company, its performance will be closely watched by investors, particularly as it pursues growth in digital services, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
