India’s wealthiest businessman, Mukesh Ambani, has made headlines again with the acquisition of the country’s first Boeing BBJ 737 MAX 9. Valued at a staggering Rs 1,000 crore, this ultra-long-range business jet has become the most expensive private aircraft owned by an Indian. The delivery of this jet in August 2024 marks a milestone in Ambani’s fleet of private jets, now totaling 10 aircraft, reflecting his growing focus on luxury travel and business mobility.

The Swiss Modifications of the Boeing 737 MAX 9

Before its official delivery to India, the Boeing 737 MAX 9 underwent major modifications at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg in Switzerland. The aircraft arrived at the facility in April 2023, where it underwent significant cabin enhancements and interior upgrades. This phase included several test flights between Basel, Geneva, and London to ensure the jet’s new features were functioning perfectly. These modifications not only added luxury elements but also enhanced the aircraft’s efficiency and overall performance. After completing these rigorous tests, the jet made its way to India in August 2024.

The Journey to India and Final Arrival

The delivery of Mukesh Ambani’s Boeing 737 MAX 9 was a momentous event. The jet took its final flight from Basel, Switzerland, to Delhi on August 27, 2024, covering a distance of over 6,200 kilometers in a nine-hour journey. The aircraft is now stationed at Delhi Airport and is expected to soon be transferred to Mumbai, where Reliance Industries is headquartered. The Boeing 737 MAX 9 is known for its large cabin, extended cargo space, and powerful range, making it a perfect addition to Ambani’s private fleet.

Expanding Reliance’s Private Fleet

The addition of the Boeing 737 MAX 9 brings Reliance Industries’ private aircraft collection to an impressive 10 jets, including an Airbus A319 ACJ and Bombardier Global 6000. In addition to long-range jets, the fleet also includes two helicopters, a Dauphin Helicopter and a Sikorsky S76, which are frequently used for shorter, quick commutes between business sites. The collection highlights Mukesh Ambani’s commitment to maintaining top-notch business travel solutions, combining efficiency with luxury for his high-profile ventures.
