Maruti Suzuki has crossed a major export milestone, with more than 1 lakh Made-in-India units of the Fronx, Jimny 5-door and e Vitara shipped to Japan. The achievement highlights India’s growing importance in Suzuki’s global manufacturing network and comes as Japan becomes one of Maruti Suzuki’s biggest export markets.

Three Indian-Made Models Cross 1 Lakh

Maruti Suzuki’s cumulative exports of the Fronx, Jimny 5-door and e Vitara to Japan have now surpassed 1 lakh units.

The export journey began with the Fronx in August 2024, followed by the five-door Jimny in December 2024. The e Vitara, Maruti Suzuki’s first battery-electric vehicle, joined the Japan-bound portfolio in September 2025.

The Jimny 5-door and e Vitara are manufactured exclusively in India, making the milestone particularly significant for the country’s ambitions to become a global automobile manufacturing hub.

Japan Becomes Maruti’s Second-Largest Export Market

Japan was Maruti Suzuki’s second-largest export destination by volume in FY2025-26 and retained that position during April-August 2026.

The achievement is notable because Japan is one of the world’s most competitive and quality-conscious automobile markets. The growing acceptance of Indian-made vehicles there provides an important validation of India’s manufacturing capabilities.

Suzuki Motor Corporation also became Japan’s No. 1 vehicle importer in FY2025-26, with India-made Maruti models accounting for almost all of its vehicle imports.

Fronx, Jimny and e Vitara Drive Growth

The three models represent different parts of Maruti Suzuki’s international strategy.

The Fronx has become one of the company’s strongest global export performers and is now shipped to nearly 90 countries. The Jimny 5-door has also developed a substantial international customer base, with Japan being one of its key markets.

The e Vitara adds another dimension to the export programme. As Maruti Suzuki’s first BEV, it has established India as a production base for Suzuki’s electric vehicles. The company has already exported more than 46,000 e Vitara units globally.

India’s Export Role Continues to Expand

Maruti Suzuki exported a record 4.47 lakh vehicles in FY2025-26, an increase of more than 34% from the previous year.

The company currently exports 17 models to nearly 120 countries and has remained India’s largest passenger-vehicle exporter for five consecutive years.

During the first five months of FY2026-27, Maruti Suzuki exported more than 1.8 lakh vehicles, accounting for over half of India’s passenger-vehicle exports.

A Shift in India’s Manufacturing Role

The Japan milestone represents more than just a sales figure. Suzuki is increasingly using India not only to serve the domestic market but also as a manufacturing base for vehicles destined for its home market and other developed economies.

With models such as the Fronx, Jimny and e Vitara gaining traction internationally, India’s role in Suzuki’s global supply chain is becoming increasingly important.

Summary: Maruti Suzuki has crossed 1 lakh cumulative exports of the Fronx, Jimny 5-door and e Vitara to Japan. The Fronx began exports in August 2024, followed by the Jimny 5-door and e Vitara. Japan is now Maruti’s second-largest export market, while India’s growing role in Suzuki’s global production network strengthens the country’s position as an automobile export hub.
