Apple is preparing a major refresh of its entry-level lineup across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices early next year, with the highlight being an all-new budget-friendly MacBook. According to analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities, the company plans to launch the iPhone 17e, a 12th-generation iPad, and a new affordable MacBook in the spring. The MacBook, previously rumoured, is expected to use Apple’s A18 Pro chip—the same processor powering the 2024 iPhone 16 Pro series—marking a notable shift as MacBooks have traditionally used M-series chips.

Apple Expands Its Budget Segment with New MacBook, iPhone 17e, and A18-Powered iPad

Designed with a 13-inch display, the device will likely come in silver, blue, pink, and yellow, mirroring the iPad’s colour palette. To meet its estimated price range of $699 to $899, Apple may make compromises such as sticking to an older chassis design, using cost-efficient display components, offering 8GB RAM, or limiting the number of USB-C ports to just one.

The upcoming iPhone 17e is expected to feature Apple’s A19 chip, an 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera, and the company’s new C1 modem, while retaining most specifications of the iPhone 16e. Some rumours suggest it may adopt the Dynamic Island, replacing the traditional notch. The 12th-generation iPad is not slated for a design overhaul, but Apple will upgrade it with the A18 chip, allowing the entry-level iPad to finally support Apple Intelligence.

Foldable iPhone and iPhone 18 Lineup Mark Apple’s New Staggered Release Cycle

Pu’s analysis aligns with other reports indicating Apple’s shift toward a split iPhone launch cycle. The iPhone 18 Pro models and Apple’s first foldable iPhone are expected in the second half of next year, while the standard iPhone 18 lineup—including the iPhone 18e and the second-generation iPhone Air—is scheduled for early 2027. Poor sales of the first iPhone Air have pushed Apple to delay its successor and consider a redesign, possibly adding dual rear cameras. Despite rising DDR memory prices, Pu believes Apple’s strong supply-chain leverage will protect it from cost increases through 2026.

Summary:

Apple is set to refresh its budget lineup with a new affordable A18 Pro-powered MacBook, the iPhone 17e with upgraded chips and features, and an A18-equipped iPad. Apple is also shifting to a split launch cycle, with the iPhone 18 Pro and its first foldable arriving before the wider 2027 lineup.
