LinkedIn, the business-oriented social network under the Microsoft umbrella, announced on Wednesday that it has surpassed the remarkable milestone of 1 billion members.
In addition to this, the platform is actively enhancing its suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features, particularly for its premium subscribers.
Professional Social Media Platform LinkedIn Crosses 1 Billion Members
This achievement of reaching one billion users firmly establishes LinkedIn as a prominent player in the realm of social media networks, alongside industry giants like Meta Platforms. LinkedIn’s core functionality revolves around enabling its members to maintain comprehensive profiles resembling professional resumes, chronicling their educational background, work history, and skill sets.
Notably, around 80% of its most recent member sign-ups originate from regions outside the United States, demonstrating the platform’s global reach and relevance.
LinkedIn offers both free and subscription-based memberships, with the latter providing access to advanced AI capabilities. Subscribers to the premium tier, priced at $39.99 per month, will benefit from an array of new AI features that can significantly streamline the job-seeking process.
These AI tools can assess a user’s profile and offer valuable insights, helping them determine their suitability for specific job postings. Moreover, the system can suggest profile improvements to enhance a user’s competitiveness in the job market.
LinkedIn’s Chief Product Officer Explains AI Tools
Tomer Cohen, LinkedIn’s Chief Product Officer, explained that these AI tools are designed to empower users by transforming their experience from a mere job search into a more productive and confidence-boosting interaction. It allows users to make substantial progress in just a single session, leveraging AI-driven insights.
As per Cohen, the tool helps users go “from what used to be just seeing a job and feeling insecure to being able to make tremendous progress in just one session, all the way towards an interaction.”
In addition to these AI enhancements, LinkedIn also introduced a new feature on Wednesday—a summary button. This button condenses lengthy posts into concise bullet points, offering tailored takeaways for each user. For instance, a sales professional might receive different key points from the same post compared to a stockbroker. This feature enhances user engagement by delivering content in a more digestible and personalized manner.
