Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. Launches New Phone With Internet at Rs. 999 Only
The beta trial for the Jio Bharat phone, targeting the first 1 million users, will commence on July 7, 2023. This trial aims to ensure the scalability of the platform and processes for upgrading millions of feature phone users. It will be conducted across 6,500 tehsils.
This particular segment of users is often overlooked by existing operators due to their inability to afford smartphones. Not only do these users face affordability challenges, but they also encounter limitations in accessing digital services.
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating that there are still 250 million mobile phone users in India who remain “trapped” in the 2G era. These users are unable to fully utilize basic internet features at a time when the world is on the brink of a 5G revolution.
“When Jio was launched six years ago, we made it clear that we would leave no stone unturned in democratizing the internet and extending the benefits of technology to every Indian. Technology should no longer be a privilege limited to a select few,” stated Akash Ambani.
250 Million Indians Still Use 2G Connectivity; Reliance Expands To 34 Cities
India still has a substantial number of mobile subscribers, approximately 250 million, who rely on feature phones and lack access to the internet. This limited connectivity hampers their ability to leverage technology, which plays a crucial role in enhancing their livelihoods and economic well-being.
While India is at the forefront of the 5G revolution with the Jio True 5G network, there remains a section of society that is unable to fully embrace the benefits of digital technology. Jio aims to address this disparity and welcome every Indian to participate in this digital movement.
Recently, we reported that Reliance Jio expanded its 5G network services to an additional 34 cities, bringing the total number of cities with Jio’s 5G coverage to 365 across the country.
Similar to Airtel, Jio will provide 5G services to consumers at no extra cost.
