iPhone Maker Stops Manufacturing At This Indian Factory After Massive Fire Destroys 50% Machines

Two local government officials have confirmed this news as well.

Massive Fire At Apple’s Foxlink Plant in Andhra

750 employees had to be evacuated after the fire on Monday forced Foxlink, to halt production at its assembly plant.

Cables for iPhone chargers are made by Foxlink, a division of Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co Ltd. in Taiwan. The company established a factory in 2020 in Andhra.

According to J Ramanaiah, who is in charge of the fire services department for the Tirupati district in the state, the fire started in the afternoon and damaged about 50% of the factory’s machinery.

According to Ramanaiah, the fire is now under control and there were no casualties, “Management has conveyed to us that they estimate a loss of roughly 1 billion rupees ($12 million) from the incident.”

No Casualties in Fire; Cause Of Fire Unknown

He shared images and videos of the factory fire, which included the plant’s charred machinery and teams of firefighters battling the blaze. Massive smoke plumes could be seen rising from the plant in the videos and pictures.

The incident’s underlying cause was not known, and the effects on Apple’s business were not immediately apparent.

Apple relies heavily on its operations in India, especially since it started asking its suppliers to plan more for assembling the product elsewhere in Asia, particularly India and Vietnam.

The government’s “Make-In-India” campaign has received a major boost thanks to Apple, which became the first company to export smartphones worth $1 billion from India in a single month.

The company exported iPhones worth Rs 8100 crore, according to reports, bringing the total industry exports of smartphones to Rs 10,000 crore.

As we reported recently, findings from the research team at Cloud Peak Law Group have revealed that Apple made $259.4 million profits per day in FY2022; more than Microsoft and Amazon combined,
