Apple is reportedly working on new MagSafe chargers that will support faster wireless charging speeds, especially for the upcoming iPhone 17 series. As per a report by 91Mobiles, the chargers were spotted on Taiwan’s NCC (National Communications Commission) certification website, hinting at imminent release alongside Apple’s next flagship smartphones.

Model Numbers and Key Differences

The certification reveals two models: A3502 and A3503. Visually, they look similar to current MagSafe chargers but differ in cable length — A3502 offers a 1-metre braided cable, while A3503 comes with a 2-metre braided cable. Both models are expected to support Qi2.2 wireless charging standard, a significant leap from the existing Qi2.1 used in iPhone 16 models.

Massive Upgrade in Charging Speeds

While current MagSafe chargers top out at 15W, and iPhone 16 supports up to 25W with a 30W charger, the Qi2.2-enabled chargers are expected to boost wireless charging up to 50W. This would mark Apple’s fastest-ever wireless charging experience, giving the iPhone 17 series a notable edge over predecessors and competitors.

The regulatory filings suggest a maximum power output of 45W, which aligns with industry expectations from Qi2.2 — an upcoming standard likely to be officially launched soon by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).

Backward Compatibility Ensured

Although the iPhone 17 series will fully utilize the 50W potential, Apple ensures backward compatibility. These new chargers will reportedly work with iPhone models ranging from iPhone 11 to iPhone 16, allowing a broad user base to benefit from improved magnetic alignment and charging efficiency, even if not the full power output.

More Than Just Speed

Beyond speed, the Qi2.2 standard also brings enhanced charging accuracy through better magnetic alignment. This could reduce overheating and improve long-term battery health — a win for Apple users and sustainability alike.
