Apple is set to launch its iPhone 16 series later this year, comprising four models. While the standard iPhone 16 variants are expected to get a revamped design, the high-end Pro models are rumored to include several upgrades, particularly in performance and charging speeds. Recent claims from China suggest significant improvements in battery capacities for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Battery Capacity Upgrades
According to a post by user Instant Digital on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, both iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature larger batteries. The iPhone 16 Pro is tipped to include a 3,577mAh battery, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max may have a 4,676mAh battery. These upgrades would represent a 9% increase for the Pro model and a 5% increase for the Pro Max model compared to their predecessors, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which have 3,274mAh and 4,441mAh batteries, respectively.
However, it’s uncertain if these larger batteries will translate into noticeably better battery life in real-world usage. Apple typically does not disclose the battery capacities of its devices, so these figures are based on leaks and rumors.
Faster Charging Speeds
The iPhone 16 Pro models are also speculated to feature faster charging capabilities. Currently, Apple has capped the charging speed across the iPhone 15 lineup at 20W. With a compatible Apple-certified 20W or higher power adapter, these models can charge up to 50% within 30 minutes. However, reports suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max may support up to 40W of wired fast charging. Additionally, MagSafe charging is rumored to be upgraded from 15W to 20W.
Potential Future Innovations
Looking ahead, Apple may continue to innovate in the realm of device form factors and AI features. Rumors suggest that Apple could unveil a clamshell iPhone in 2026, alongside another foldable device. The company also anticipates a boost from AI features, following an uneven third quarter.
