The iPhone 15 series is set to be unveiled at an upcoming Apple event next month, and it’s expected to bring several enhancements, ranging from a new charging port to an improved rear camera setup. Recent reports suggest that the iPhone 15 lineup will introduce Thunderbolt connectivity through a rumored USB Type-C port. However, a new claim by an insider indicates that the cable bundled with the iPhone 15 will only support USB 2.0, resulting in slower charging and data transfer speeds compared to a USB 4 or Thunderbolt-compatible cable.

Insider Reveals Details About iPhone 15’s USB Type-C Cable: What to Expect

Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial), formerly known as a Twitter user, shared images of the alleged USB Type-C cable intended for the iPhone 15. They state that this accessory will have a length of 1.6 meters and consist of 16 pins. It’s purported to be more robust and thicker compared to Apple’s current USB Type-C to Lightning charging cables.

According to this insider, the cable included with the iPhone 15 will provide USB 2.0 connectivity and support charging at 20V and 3A. If the leaked information about the cable is accurate, it will enable data transfers at speeds of up to 480Mbps. However, it’s important to note that these claims should be taken with caution, as the source of the images could not be verified.

Recently, there were leaks about iPhone 15 cables that measured 1.5 meters in length and featured a braided design, matching the iPhone’s colors in the box. Again, it’s worth mentioning that the credibility of these claims is uncertain.

High-Speed Upgrades Expected in iPhone 15: Thunderbolt, Faster Charging, and More

Recent information suggests that the iPhone 15 series is set to introduce Thunderbolt/USB 4 compatibility, which holds the promise of significantly faster data transfer speeds. The presence of a Retimer chip, a component commonly found in high-speed data transmission devices that support Thunderbolt and USB 4, hints that the forthcoming iPhones could potentially achieve data transfer rates of up to 40Gbps.

Additionally, there are reports indicating that specific models within the iPhone 15 lineup will support 35W wired charging through the new USB Type-C port. This represents an enhancement compared to the iPhone 14 Pro, which currently offers a maximum of 27W charging, the fastest among previous iPhone models. Apple is contemplating the utilization of either a 35W adapter with dual USB ports or the 30W MacBook Air adapter for the iPhone 15 series, scheduled for a debut in September.
