IndiGo is set to become the first airline to operate commercial flights from the highly anticipated Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), developed under a public-private partnership model. This move marks a major milestone in India’s expanding aviation network and signals the operational readiness of both the airline and the new airport.

Indigo Will Operate 18 Daily Flights From Navi Mumbai

18 Flights Daily from Day One

In partnership with Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), IndiGo has announced it will begin operations with 18 daily flights to more than 15 cities. These flights will commence on the first day of the airport’s official launch, which is expected by June 2025, as stated by Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani.

Rapid Expansion in the Pipeline

IndiGo plans to significantly scale operations post-launch. By November 2025, the airline aims to operate 79 flights daily, including 14 international ones. The network will further expand to 100 daily flights by March 2026 and reach 140 flights by November 2026, with 30 being international routes.

This phased growth underscores IndiGo’s commitment to serve increasing passenger demand and strengthen connectivity across India and abroad.

A Futuristic Airport with Green Features

Spanning 2,866 acres, NMIA is a greenfield project managed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (NMIAL). AAHL holds 74 percent of NMIAL, while CIDCO of Maharashtra holds the remaining 26 percent.

The airport will initially handle 2 crore passengers and 8 lakh metric tonnes of cargo annually. At full capacity, it will accommodate 9 crore passengers and manage 32 lakh metric tonnes of cargo each year.

The airport’s architecture is inspired by the lotus flower and will feature sustainable construction and energy-efficient technologies, highlighting India’s growing focus on eco-conscious infrastructure.

Strategic Transfer Hub for the Future

Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, emphasized that the IndiGo partnership will help NMIA position itself as a major transfer hub for both domestic and international travelers. With increasing travel demands and a futuristic design, NMIA is poised to become a game-changer in Indian aviation.
