In a symbolic move underscoring India’s technological self-reliance, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he has adopted Zoho Mail for all official correspondence. “Hello everyone, I have switched to Zoho Mail. Kindly note the change in my email address,” Shah posted, urging citizens to use his new @zohomail.in ID for future communication.

Sridhar Vembu’s Emotional Tribute to Indian Engineers

Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu responded with deep gratitude, dedicating the milestone to the engineers who chose to stay in India and innovate. “They all stayed in India and worked all these years because they believed. Their faith is vindicated. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat,” he wrote, reinforcing the spirit of the ‘Make in India’ movement.

Government’s Broader Shift Toward Swadeshi Software

Amit Shah’s move aligns with a wider governmental trend toward promoting digital sovereignty. The Ministry of Education (MoE) recently urged officials to use the Zoho Office Suite—a comprehensive productivity platform—to strengthen data security and self-reliance. The ministry’s circular, titled “Strengthening Digital Sovereignty under the Swadeshi Movement,” reflects a long-term vision of turning India from a service-based to a product-driven tech nation.

Zoho: Built in India, for the World

Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Chennai, Zoho has built a global reputation without external funding. Its privacy-focused, ad-free Zoho Mail, launched in 2008, competes with giants like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. With encrypted transmission, Aadhaar-linked security, and Indian data hosting, Zoho represents the next chapter in India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat journey.

A Symbolic Leap for Digital India

Amit Shah’s endorsement goes beyond technology—it’s a message of trust in Indian innovation. For many, this moment embodies the merging of governance and grassroots tech excellence, proving that India’s homegrown products are ready to lead on the world stage. As one user aptly put it: “The Home Minister’s email just went Atmanirbhar.”
