ICICI Bank Introduces UPI Payments for NRI Customers, Exempts Specific Accounts from Closure Policy
All the above mentioned will not be closed. In addition to these, the accounts frozen on the orders of court, Income Tax Department or any other statutory authority will also not be closed under this.
On the flipside, ICICI bank is providing the facility to NRI customers to use international mobile numbers to make UPI payments in India.
Such customers can simply make payments via UPI by scanning the QR code or using UPI ID or using mobile number. The bank noted that the same has caused substantial increase in the number of daily payments.
With this, those NRI customers who have their international mobile number registered in their NRE/NRO bank account with ICICI Bank in the country, can directly make payments for their bill, merchant and e-commerce transactions.
It is via the mobile banking app iMobile Pay that this service is being provided by the bank.
Earlier, these people had to register an Indian mobile number with their banks to make UPI payments.
