India's 1st Bullet Train Route Is 47% Complete By Spending Rs 67,486 Crore

The 508 km project, which has Japanese support, was approved in December 2015. The updated price is ₹1.08 lakh crore.

Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train Progress At 47%

“As of October 2024, it has achieved 47.17 per cent physical progress with an expenditure of Rs 67,486 crore,” the report states.

Significant improvements have also been made to the Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs), which are intended to improve logistics by expanding freight volumes without compromising passenger trains.

“As of November 2024, 2,741 km (96.4 per cent) of the planned 2,843 km DFC network has been commissioned,” the report notes.

The railway network saw the addition of 17 new Vande Bharat trains between April and October 2024.

Twenty-four new Vande Bharat trains were introduced between April and October of the previous fiscal year, and forty-one were launched between April and March.

“Between April and October 2024, 17 new pairs of Vande Bharat trains were introduced to the network, and 228 coaches were produced,” the Economic Survey states.

In the most recent fiscal year, 456 Vande Bharat coaches were produced.

According to the report, India’s new railway line construction slowed down in 2024–2025 when compared to the prior fiscal year.

“The addition to the length of highways, roads, and railway lines has been modestly lower,” the report mentions.

The railway network’s commissioning rate has dropped by nearly 11%.

Between April and November of FY24, 2,282 km of railway network were put into service, whereas in FY25, only 2,031 km were finished in the same time frame.

Govt Will Launch 200 Vande Bharat Trains, 100 Amrit Bharat Trains

Additionally, the government is planning to roll out 200 new Vande Bharat trains which will have facilities for both sleeper and chair car configurations.

Under this development, the centre is planning to introduce 100 Amrit Bharat and 50 Namo Bharat train sets.

Besides this they will also undertake multiple infrastructure and development projects.
