Next financial year, shall witness the end of partnership between Disney+Hotstar and HBO as the former revealed that HBO content will be unavailable on the streaming platform from March 31.
Disney+Hotstar Ends Partnership with HBO
On its Twitter handle, Disney+Hotstar shared that “Starting 31st March, HBO content will be unavailable on Disney+ Hotstar. You can continue enjoying Disney+ Hotstar’s vast library of content spanning over 100,000 hours of TV Shows and Movies in 10 languages and coverage of major global sporting events”.
Usually, the OTT players have a licensed agreement and these have to be renewed every once in a while. However, the when the parties fail to come to term or there is a compelling offer from the competition or both, usually they both go their ways.
And in the Indian context, it looks as if Disney+ Hotstar has failed to negotiate terms with HBO.
It was soon after the Disney CEO Bob Iger announced restructuring of the company and cost-cutting measures that the news of Disney+Hotstar ending their partnership with HBO came out.
This discontinuation of HBO content would mean the unavailability of several popular shows such as ‘The Succession’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ on the Disney+Hotstar platform.

Following is the list of all the shows that shall no longer be available on Disney+Hotstar platforms from the March 31:

Currently, Amazon Prime Video streams HBO Max Originals such as ‘The Flight Attendant’ and ‘Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’ in India.
Now that the movers and shakers of the OTT and HBO Studios have already made the discontinuation clear, all we can recommend is that if in case you have missed out on something, this could be the best time to catch up on the same. Until then….
And yes, there is also another shocker for the sports enthusiasts, that IPL 2023 will also be not streaming on Hotstar for the first time in years.
Sigh in despair…
