Indian Railways is gearing up to expand its services by adding over 1,000 General Second Class (GS) coaches to 370 regular trains by the end of November. This move is expected to provide affordable travel options to approximately one lakh passengers every day. The initiative comes as a relief to travelers, especially during peak travel seasons, reducing overcrowding in general compartments.

Indian Railways Plans To Add 1000 General Coaches In 370 Trains To Benefit 100,000 Passengers

Long-Term Plan: 10,000 Non-AC Coaches by 2025

Looking ahead, Indian Railways has ambitious plans to introduce 10,000 non-air-conditioned (non-AC) coaches into its fleet over the next two years. According to Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of the Railway Board, over 6,000 of these will be GS coaches, with the remainder being sleeper coaches. This expansion will enable the railway network to accommodate an additional eight lakh passengers daily.

Enhancing Travel Capacity for Budget Passengers

The inclusion of these non-AC coaches aligns with Indian Railways’ mission to improve accessibility and affordability for travelers across the country. By boosting the capacity of its general class services, the railway system aims to make travel more comfortable and reduce overcrowding, especially during festive periods and peak travel seasons.

A Commitment to Better Services

This large-scale addition of coaches is a testament to Indian Railways’ commitment to addressing the needs of budget travelers. With over one lakh passengers benefiting immediately and millions more in the future, this initiative will play a crucial role in enhancing the nation’s travel infrastructure and passenger satisfaction.
