India’s OTT Audience Reaches 601.2 Million in 2025

India’s digital video world is growing fast. The latest Ormax OTT Audience Report for 2025 shows that there are now 601.2 million OTT users in India — about 41.1% of the population. Out of these, 148.2 million are paying subscribers, which means more people are willing to pay for streaming than ever before.

A Move from Phones to Bigger Screens

This is the fifth report from Ormax Media, and it comes from a survey of 15,600 people from both cities and villages. The study digs into how people use OTT services, what they pay for, and what devices they use. It’s the kind of data that content makers, advertisers, and streaming services really need to know.

One of the most striking things in the report: Connected TVs are catching on fast. There are 129.2 million people using Connected TVs in India now, which is up by 87% from last year. That means somewhere between 35–40 million homes have access to them. India, which until now has largely been a phone-first OTT market, is slowly shifting toward viewing on bigger screens.

Changing Habits, More Variety

Shailesh Kapoor, the Founder & CEO of Ormax Media, called the growth in Connected TVs “especially striking.” He said the report gives “trusted third‑party insights” into the streaming business. The 2025 version now also includes new chapters on how much time people spend on digital content, which languages they prefer, what kinds of content formats they like, and how their overall media use is changing. According to Keerat Grewal (Head of Business Development, Ormax), these additions make the findings more actionable for advertisers and platforms.

India’s OTT population grew by about 10% this year — not as high as the 13‑14% growth seen in 2023‑24, but still solid. What’s driving the growth? Better broadband connections, more households getting Connected TVs, and the rise of regional language content. Ormax breaks the user base down by age, gender, social class, and geography — and that shows a lot of diversity among OTT viewers. For creators, streamers, and brands, that diversity means there are many opportunities — if you understand what different groups want.

Summary:
India now has 601.2 million OTT users, of which 148.2 million pay. Connected TV users surged by 87% to 129.2 million, showing people are shifting from phone-first to bigger screen viewing. Growth continues, thanks to broadband, regional content, and varying viewer preferences.
