Ahead of the recent entry of Honor, sub-brand of Huawei, in India with the launch of a new smartphone it was reported that a major shakeup in leadership occurred.
India return
The company’s India arm will be led by Realme’s former CEO Madhav Sheth.
Although there has been no official confirmation, a trademark named “Honor for Knights” with Sheth’s name mentioned was discovered recently.
He is accompanied by 15 employees along with a few top executives that have already joined HonorTech after leaving Realme.
Senior officials who have resigned include former Realme Director Sales Dipesh Punamiya, who joined as AVP at Honor Tech in July.
Why join Honor?
Sheth resigned from the company last month after five years.
“After 5 years at Realme, it’s time for me to move on and start a new journey,” Sheth noted in an official tweet.
According to a report from ET Telecom, Honor’s India partner PSAV Global Tech Private Limited is currently discussing with former Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth to revive the brand in the country.
PSAV Global, headquartered in Noida, is a distributor of Honor devices, including laptops, tablets, and wearables.
Poaching accusations
According to a report in ET Telecom, the sales heads who have quit Realme said that their “core team” was taken along.
“There is a mass resignation at Realme India as several employees, including top directors, have joined Madhav Sheth at Honor Tech,” the report confirmed.
Leadership jumble
Dipesh Punamiya, who was in charge of offline sales at Realme, has now become the assistant vice president (AVP) at Honor Tech.
Sanjeev Kumar, sitting in the position of assistant vice president (AVP) at Honor Tech took up a senior position in the new company.
Pivoting from India business
China’s BBK Electronics, incidentally the parent of Realme, decided to make handset makers OnePlus, Oppo and Realme separate entities in India in June.
Apparently, it is seeking to “de-risk its India business”.
This involves the three smartphone OEMs which have sales accounted for in their own books.
Handset makers OnePlus and Realme are likely to join hands with local Indian contract manufacturers soon, reports say.
